Church Family - October 18th, 2026

Offering Prayers

Shirley Bergshoeff has returned home to Shalom from the hospital. We continue to lift Shirley and her family up in prayer and ask for peace, strength and patience. May God bring her home in his time as she and her family are ready.

We pray for our Trick or Canning campaign. We give thanks for the wonderful work of GBF and we pray for the many needs for food, clothing, and support in our community. May God strengthen the staff, volunteers and donors working at Food and Community Care programs as demand is high. We pray for our community leaders in business, policy, and politics as they navigate the economic challenges we face including rising unemployment. May our hearts and those of our leaders be moved towards generosity, system solutions, and justice so that all may have what they need and can flourish. May our Trick or Canning efforts be blessed and be a blessing to GBF and to the Grimsby community.

Please join us in holding up in prayer those who manage daily burdens of one kind or another (chronic or acute illness, grief, mental health, loneliness, loss of abilities). We think specifically this week of:  Henk Heersink, Annie Boekestyn, Dina Reinders, Anne Schuringa, Rina Vantellingen, Lydia Koomans, Johanna Ubbens, and John & Henny Vanderkolk. May God give them each what they stand in need of. May God give wisdom and strength to those who walk alongside them. We also pray for those who are dealing with issues of which we are not aware.

 Giving Thanks

Today is the last day noted for gathering blankets for our unhoused neighbours and the timing is great because the weather has just started to cool down again and our Food Program winds down very soon.  We give thanks for the generous response to request for blankets. May they bless those that receive them.

We give thanks for the work of Kathleen & Colin Wassenaar in Phnom Penh Cambodia.  We pray for them as they seek God’s will regarding having a family. We pray for patience and peace in that process and as they wait. We pray for Kathleen as she shifts away from some things and into others and for Colin as he discerns a path for preaching and pastoring. Their September Update, “Prayer Vitality and Southern Hospitality” can be read here.

This Sunday, we celebrate the baptism of Simon Isaac Van Geest and give thanks for his life and the gift he is to his family. We pray a blessing on, Greg & Petra as they strive to raise Tyce, Mariska, Poppy, and Simon to know and love God, and to serve God with their gifts. We give thanks for God’s gifts of love and grace demonstrated in baptism. We welcome Simon into our church family and promise walk alongside this family in faith and love.
