Slide 3

Deep Hope #6
Unity
We have come to assume that the church should be divided into denominations.

Slide 4

Power is at play here.
So is intellectualism.
And worship.

Slide 5

Competition
We spend a lot of energy maintaining our team when the point is to celebrate the beautiful game.

Slide 6

How broadly does this apply?
10 I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you,

Slide 7

How do we approach this?
but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.

Slide 8

2nd and 3rd hand info
11 My brothers and sisters, some from Chloe’s household have informed me that there are quarrels among you.

Slide 9

What names do we put in?
12 What I mean is this: One of you says, “I follow Paul”; another, “I follow Apollos”; another, “I follow Cephas”; still another, “I follow Christ.”

Slide 10

Keeping perspective
13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul?

Slide 11

Incarnational insight
14 I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except...

Slide 12

Humility is the key to unity
17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.

Slide 13

Unity Perspective

2. Bible
3. Church
4. Group

Slide 14

Unity Practice
1. listen to a Baptist on  baptism
2. listen to a Mennonite on peace
3. listen to a Catholic on communion

Slide 1

Advanced Unity Practice
4. listen to a former or non-member on our church
5. listen to someone on the other side of any church convo
