June 29th 2025 - Way More than Washing

Scripture Passage:  Romans 6:1-14

Slide 1

Slide 2

Romans 6:1-14
Sacraments:
Baptism and Communion

Slide 3

Simply put:
Baptism washes us up
Communion puts us at the table

Slide 4

Romans 6 suggests there is way more to this conversation.
Way more than washing.

Slide 5

The middle of a conversation
What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase?

Slide 6

The deeper image
4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

Slide 7

In Christ
5 ... united with him ... 6 ... our old self was crucified with him ...we should no longer be slaves to sin

Slide 8

Baptism as deep dive drowning in submarine Jesus
with call to open the door.

Slide 9

Experience over explain

Come remember, confess, and drown

Slide 10

It is done.  Because it was done.
11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

Slide 11

Moving forward: know who reigns
12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires.

Slide 12

Position Positively
13 Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God... as an instrument of righteousness.

Slide 13

Remember grace is your master
14 For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.

Slide 14

Washed in baptism, once
You are clean

 Fed at the table, repeatedly
Remember who you are
