APRIL 2019

April 2019 – Highlights

The Elders and Deacons met on April 4 and would like to share the following:

John Teitsma was approved as a new member of the Counting Committee.

The membership transfer of Marita Bosch (nee Regnerus) to Blessings Christian Church in Hamilton was approved. Marita has been worshipping at Blessings since her marriage.

Adam Bylsma accepted the nomination to become Chair of the Elder Ministry Team for the upcoming church calendar year, and Erin Van Driel accepted her nomination as Vice-Chair of the Elder Ministry Team. Thank you to Adam and Erin for accepting these new roles in the coming year, and a special thank you to Annette Klingenberg for her leadership as Chair over the past year.

Mountainview’s membership list was reviewed, in order that an accurate membership count could be provided to Classis Niagara and the CRCNA.

Members from HR team met with Dave and Whitney Rintjema who are doing a nice job giving leadership to our music ministry. They have expressed a willingness to continue providing leadership for this ministry during the summer months and the time to come.

Outreach Ministry will not be organizing a Mountainview Carnival this year. Instead, Mountainview and other members of the Grimsby Ministerial will tie into an event being organized for June 20-222nd called “Happening in Grimsby.” The Saturday will have some familiar family entertainment that our Carnival used to offer.

Interviews for Kid’s camp staff took place in April with the majority of the candidates being staff from previous years. With the receipt of the Canada Summer Jobs grant, we will be offering 19 youth contracts in May. Camp registration currently totals 543 spots filled.

On April 3rd Pastor Sid informed Heritage Fellowship CRC in Brampton that he regretfully declined their call. On April 7th, he received a call from First Christian Reformed Church in Owen Sound. Pastor Sid and Sue took a week a week’s vacation visiting their son and daughter-in-law in Escondido California. On Friday, April 26th, he accepted the Call to First Christian Reformed Church in Owen Sound.

He is planning to begin ministry in Owen Sound on September 1st with his first Sunday for preaching being September 8th. As for finishing here at Mountainview, he will be preaching three of four Sunday mornings in May and on June 2nd and June 9th. Pastor Sid has been delegated by Classis Niagara to Synod 2019, in Grand Rapids, from June 13th – 20th. Pastor Fred’s last service will be June 23th. Pastor Kevin Stieva to preach on June 30th and Pastor Sid will make July 7th his closing service at Mountainview and plans to begin in Owen Sound in September.

Pastor Sid has a number of young people who have indicated a desire to make Public Profession of Faith. We are planning a Profession of Faith / Youth Service for Pentecost Sunday, June 9th which will include a celebration of the Lord’s Supper. Those wishing to make public profession will meet with the elders some time before.

Several people have been tasked with planning a celebration around Pastor Fred’s retirement and a several others have been asked to plan a closing celebration around Pastor Sid’s time with us. More details will be coming.

The drawing of lots for the office of elders and deacons took place on April 14th and the following people were drawn to service; Isaac VanGeest as Clerk; P.J. Vermeer as Vice Chair; Erna Fluit as Shalom Elder; Graham Austin, Dan Huinink, Arie Fennema and Joanne Tigchelaar as elders; and Tim Eggink, Jonathan Buma, Jen DeJong and Will Visser as deacons. Installation of Office Bearers will take place on May 12th.

We were blessed in Worship during the month of April. Our journey through lent took us to the foot of the cross on Good Friday, to the joy of Resurrection Sunday. He has risen! During the month we celebrated together Christian Education with Kids@Mountainview Family Worship; our GEMS Ministry; and held an Easter Community Hymn Sing. We hosted a New Comers coffee social and met with several people in the process of making Mountainview their home. We choose new elders and deacons, witnessed infant baptism and the Celebrated the Lord’s Supper.

Elders and Deacons meet on May 2nd, 2019.

Full Council meets on May 9th, 2019, for their Transition Meeting with new Council members.
