MOUNTAINVIEW NEWS

A NOTE FROM COUNCIL: At their May 2nd meeting Council made the decision to cancel evening services from June to October 27 (inclusive). This change is primarily due to the fact that we will be vacant in the next couple of months. A review will be made by Council at their September meeting.

A Note From the Deacons: The June Collection Schedule is being posted this week. Although the PM services are cancelled going forward, PM causes remain. Donations from proposed PM Collections can be put in the AM collection.

The Grimsby Life Centre LIFE CHANGE CAMPAIGN is in motion! Bottles are available at the sanctuary entrances in baskets by your greeters. Please take a bottle home to fill with a donation to support the work of the Grimsby Life Centre during the weeks between Mother’s and Father’s day. Campaign info. is in the Newsletter under Joyful Giving each week during this period of fundraising. Our continued financial support keeps the doors of GLC open for anyone who is seeking support, so please give generously.

The Youth will be going to Waterloo this weekend for the annual AOYC. Several leaders will be joining them and everyone is looking forward to this amazing spiritual retreat. While the youth and leaders are away we ask that you thoughtfully consider them in your prayers.

MOUNTAINVIEW LIBRARY:

The Mountainview Library is going mobile today!
We’re brining some new books and some old favourites, staight to you! Come check us out in the Fellowship Hall after the morning service.

Mountainview Library has some more new books and would like to highlight them over the next few weeks. A full list of new spring books has been placed in each mail slot and is available at the Welcome Centre. This week we highlight a historical fiction choice:

Thief of Corinth (historical fiction) by Tessa Afshar

After years spent living with her mother and oppressive grandfather in Athens, Ariadne runs away to her father’s home in Corinth, only to discover the perilous secret that destroyed his marriage.  When Ariadne and her father befriend a Jewish rabbi named Paul, they realize that his radical message challenges everything they’ve fought to build, yet offers something neither dared hope for.

Mountainview Book Club:  The book club will be meeting for the last time this season on May 26 at 7:00 pm in the church library.  We will be discussing Ann Walmsley's The Prison Book Club.

PRAYER WALK: Saturday June 1st 8:30 am-9:30 am we'll be meeting at the church. Anyone interested can come and meet us at the church. You're welcome to join us. Contact Jane deVisser at 905-563-7671 or e-mail pjdevisser@sympatico.ca

Also mark your calendar for Tuesday June 11th at 7:30 p.m. for our Spring Congregational Meeting. Coffee and fellowship at 7 pm.

GREETING: A warm smile, shake of the hand, pat on the back, quick hug, all make you feel welcomed. Whether church family or guests, we want to make sure that all those coming to Mountainview each Sunday feel at home. Greeting is an important part of that. We are creating the Greeter’s schedule for July - December 2019. Can you take a turn to welcome family and friends in God’s house? Please let me know if you can volunteer, on a regular basis, 4 times per year, or maybe only once or twice. We’d be glad to have you! If you can no longer serve in this ministry, please also let me know so that I can take you off the list. Email Karin at office@mountainviewcrc.org or call 905-945-0004 ext. 221.

LOCAL & DENOMINATIONAL NEWS

 CRCNA:

Family Faith Formation Tip - This week, dream with kids about what life in God’s “new heaven and new earth” (Rev. 21) might be like. What would a life without sin, sorrow, pain, and fear look like? What might be different? What might be the same? Talk about how each of you can use the gifts God has given you to bring healing in God’s world even now. (Faith Formation Ministries; crcna.org/FaithFormation).

Canadian National Gathering 2019 - Members of CRC churches from across Canada will be gathering in Edmonton at King's University next weekend (May 24 - 26) to listen to what the Spirit is saying to the CRC.
