Mountainview Library has some more new books and would like to highlight them over the next few weeks. A full list of new spring books has been placed in each mail slot and is available at the Welcome Centre. Theme this week:  Leadership

Playing God – Redeeming the Gift of Power by Andy Crouch author of Culture Making

“This is a thoughtful and compelling book about power.  Thinking of power as a gift which is meant for flourishing gives the reader much to consider.  Institutions are meant for flourishing.  Therefore, leaders of institutions must ask the question about how they are using the power gifted to them.  Are they image bearers of that power or god players? The author’s biblical and personal stories help the reader work through these and many other great questions.” – Mary Andringa, president/CEO Vermeer Corporation

Leaders Eat Last – Why Some Teams Pull Together and Others Don’t by Simon Sinek

Imagine a world in which the vast majority of people wake up inspired to go to work, feel safe when they are there and return home feeling fulfilled by the work they do. It’s not as crazy as you might think. The fascinating research and true stories in this book prove that leaders who are willing to eat last are rewarded with deeply loyal, inspired and effective colleagues.

CHURCH CALENDAR

LOCAL & DENOMINATIONAL NEWS

CRCNA NEWS:

Good Friday Family Faith Formation Tip - Without experiencing the darkness of Good Friday, we can’t fully appreciate the joy of Easter. Let kids know that it’s appropriate to be sad this week as we remember Jesus’ suffering and sacrifice, but remind them that death does not have the last word in God’s salvation story! (crcna.org/FaithFormation).

Easter Sunday Family Faith Formation Tip - Got Lego, Playmobil, or other small figures? Use them to re-enact Jesus’ resurrection with kids today. Read the Easter story from John 20:1-18 in a child-friendly version of the Bible like the NIrV (available at BibleGateway.com). Then read it again, slowly, as kids act the story out with figures and experience it in a new way.

Free Advocacy Workshop - The CRCNA, World Renew, and Canadian Foodgrains Bank have partnered to present Faith in Action: Practicing Biblical Advocacy - a workshop that will help you learn how to have your voice heard by local, provincial, and national leaders. This is a great opportunity to do advocacy for World Renew and CFGB, but the skills you learn will also apply to any justice issues that matter to your local congregations. April 27th @ Immanuel CRC in Hamilton, 9:30am-3:30pm. Please register at www.bit.ly/onadvocacy or by contacting cstover@crcna.org.

D-Day Memories - Do you remember D-Day, the Allied invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944? Do you know someone who does? In commemoration of the 75th anniversary of this important event during World War II, the CRC News plans to include an article about it in our June 5 news email. Can you share your memories or put us in contact with veterans or survivors of the Normandy landings? Email cmeehan@crcna.org.

Pray for Inspire 2019 - Inspire 2019 is a conference to connect people from across the 1000+ churches in the CRC for three days of worship, workshops, speakers, and conversation. Please pray for keynote speaker Soong-Chan Rah. Pray that God will guide him as he prepares the message for Inspire 2019; that his words will encourage those listening. Pray also for interactions and conversations he will have with people at the event.
