MOUNTAINVIEW NEWS

Keeping Mountainview Safe and Well-Informed. Council is providing an event on Thursday, February 7th, from 9:30 to 11:30 am. We have invited Judy Cook to once again, come to Mountainview. If you are dealing with anxiety, anger or fear, Judy is available to listen and to talk with you. If you have questions about sexual abuse, addictions and pedophilia, she is there to provide information. All are welcome! Nursery and refreshments will be provided. For more information, please contact Christina Pleizier at pleizier@cogeco.ca or 289-235-8509.

Are you called to serve? Mountainview’s vision is to transform lives by the love of Jesus, bringing hope, healing and good news in a broken world. Within in our community we have Elders and Deacons who serve our congregation and community for their spiritual, personal and physical needs so that each person can experience and grow in the richness of God’s grace. In the upcoming months there will be an opportunity for those gifted in walking alongside people on their life journeys to become part of Mountainview Church’s ministry team. The process to identify these names has begun. If this is something you would be interested in and feel called to do, or if you know someone you feel is gifted for either one of these roles, please pass their name on to the Clerk, Glenn Heinen, in the next few weeks. You may email Glenn (clerk@mountainviewcrc.org) or place the nomination(s) in his mail slot. Nominees will be asked to attend a one-hour Information Session where they will hear from current Elders and Deacons and get an understanding of the roles and expectations. At any time, nominees can request a one-on-one meeting with a current Elder/Deacon. Please prayerfully consider this opportunity.

PRAYER WALK: Saturday, February 2nd; meeting at Tim's across from Coles at 8:30 - 9:30 am. Interested? Email pjdevisser@sympatico.ca. call 905-563-7671 Jane deVisser.

OVER 18 EDUCATION EVENT:  Mark your calendar for Sunday, February 10 at 7 pm as Mountainview Church hosts its Annual Education Event. The evening will include a screening of the movie ‘Over 18’ followed by an opportunity for a Q&A with a Panel.
Over 18” is a documentary about modern pornography and its effects on children and youth. The goal is to educate youth on the realities of pornography, help their parents understand the growing epidemic of hardcore porn usage, and propose solutions for preventing exposure and addiction in the first place.
Our hope in hosting this screening is to open-up the conversation around pornography addiction in our churches and families. We also want to equip people with tools and resources to both protect their kids from harmful sexual content online as well as help those struggling with pornography addiction themselves. Learn more at: over18doc.com. This screening open to all. Doors OPEN @ 6:30 pm; SCREENING @ 7:00 p.m.  Please join us! www.mountainviewcrc.org.

Come out and join us at Rico’s Diner. Flash back to the 50s with a ‘Dinner at the Diner’ and take an evening out to spend with Mountainview’s youth on Saturday February 23rd. Cocktails @ 5:30 and Dinner @ 6:30. All donations support the Mission Trip to Puerto Rico and the All Ontario Youth Convention (AOYC). Gosh we’d love to see ya!

Mountainview Library is going Mobile!  Because there are so many awesome books in our library that are collecting dust instead of being enjoyed, the library is coming to you…. Next Sunday, February 10th, you will see a sampling of some of Mountainview’s finest in the Fellowship Hall after the morning service. So, you will be able to peruse some titles and even check books and movies out – all while enjoying a coffee!!

Do you need someone to pray for you?
Our prayer team is here to pray for you!
The Prayer ministry has a group of people ready and waiting to stand with you in prayer. It can be petition or praise, whatever may be on your heart, no matter how big or small. Send an e-mail to prayer@mountainviewcrc.org, or call Marg 905-979-6672 or Nancy 905-741-5847. We will pass on your prayer request to everyone in the ‘Prayer Blast’ group.
We also have a small super confidential prayer initiative. It consists of only one person other than us. There is no email, no record of your request. It is simply a phone call or personal conversation regarding your need. If you have a prayer request that falls into this category, please talk to Marg or Nancy. We will hold it in confidence and offer up this private prayer.

NEIGHBOURHOOD POTLUCKS: Neighbourhoods are one way we, as a church body, can connect with fellow Mountainview members who live near us.  Each neighbourhood will be invited to attend a potluck lunch following the morning service. This is an opportunity to get to know the other members in your neighbourhood, enjoy good food and fellowship together. Mark your calendar to join us, the dates are as follows:
Neighbourhood 3 ~ TODAY; Neighbourhood 2 ~ February 24th; Neighbourhood 4 ~ March 3rd.

CAN YOU HELP? One of our Friendship Club members, Susan Dekker, needs a ride to/from church on Sunday mornings from now until April. Susan lives on Woodlawn Court near Olive Street, north of the QEW in Grimsby. She volunteers as a nursery attendant every Sunday morning and would really appreciate having a ride to church over the winter months! If you are able and willing to help, please contact any of our Deacons.
