Middle School Kick off!! Friday September 21st at Skyzone in St Catherines. Please purchase your tickets (unlimited glow time) and fill in the waiver online on their website; https://www.skyzone.com/ca-stcatharines, before the 21st. We will meet at the church for 6pm and estimate to be back at the church at 10:30pm. All must wear glow in the dark clothing for this event. Please let Janice know if you are going!
Niagara Classis Youth Group Competition; On Saturday September 22nd the youth groups of Niagara classis are gathering at Smithville Christian from 6-9pm for some competition! There will be a bbq, 9 square and Spikeball. Calling the Mountainview Youth to compete with your peers; lets represent!!
Middle School and Youth start up again Sunday September 23rd from 5-7pm. We will meet in the gym for dinner first. See you then.
Flower Box Fundraiser - The Puerto Rico mission team is building and selling flower boxes for their trip. Two options: square box, fits an 6” pot or triangle prism fits a 4.5” pot; a fall mum is included. A great piece of décor for by your front door. Cost $40 each. Soup and Chili Cook-off Fundraiser - The Puerto Rico mission team is putting on their aprons and cooking up their favourite soup or chili recipes for you. Taste test each one and vote for your favourite: Saturday September 29; 5:30pm-7:30pm @ Mountainview. Cost by donation.
FAITH INSTRUCTION for students in grades 9 through 12 starts up Tuesday September 18th for another church calendar year. We’ll meet for one hour, beginning at 7 p.m. Mr. Tony Kamphuis will be leading grades 9 & 10 through a study of the Heidelberg Catechism- “HC & Me” and Pastor Sid Couperus will be taking grades 11 and 12 through the “Come and See” Please come out and join us! Take that next step in developing your relationship with God.
COMMISSIONING SERVICE ~ As we begin another season, we pray for God's blessing on our ministries at Mountainview. May each of us will find a way to use our gifts within this congregation and our community, eager to serve and grow and help one another. This morning we will be commissioning those who have been called to serve in the various ministries of our church. Mountainview is blessed to have such a diverse inter-generation group of volunteers. Remember those volunteers who touch your life both directly and indirectly, and take some time to thank them!
CLUSTER GROUPS: We are getting excited for the start of Cluster Groups! Almost 180 people have signed up to participate. We begin Sunday September 30th @ 7 pm in the Sanctuary. If you have not heard from them yet, your Small Group Leader will be in touch with you shortly.
Performing Arts @ Mountainview presents the MOMENTUM Choir in concert on Friday October 19th, 2018 @ 7 p.m. Momentum Choir is a highly disciplined, professionally facilitated performance choir, that consists entirely of musicians living with a disability. The Choir started in 2007, with funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, in response to an important need in the community. Momentum Choir nurtures the musical talent of people with disabilities. It serves as an artistic channel, empowering musicians with opportunities to showcase their abilities and communicate their love for music. The concert will take place at Mountainview Church, 290 Main St. East in Grimsby. Tickets: $15 each, or $35 per family (w/children 15 & under.) Available at The Dutch Shop in Grimsby, or at the door on the evening of the concert.
SERVE SATURDAY is being organized by the Outreach team on October 13th; a morning where we can bless those in our community by serving them. Join us first for breakfast, devotions and prayer at 8:30 at Mountainview. Then, go out into the community in groups to serve others' needs - fall yard clean ups, helping out at GBF, visiting seniors, doing small projects etc. After your project, join us back at the church at noon for a BBQ lunch and more fellowship. Help needed: Many of you in our congregation know Eric Slothouber. Eric has moved to 125 Livingston, Unit 27, Grimsby and is attending Mountainview. The deacons have been assisting Eric with driving him to church on Sunday mornings as well as driving him to the YMCA late Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. We are seeking volunteers to assist us with this need. Please contact Eric Heinen or any of the deacons if you are willing and able to help out.
Cadets is looking for people with special interests, skills or hobbies! eg. computers, metal working, electronics, plumbing, cars, health care, police, etc. anything that might be interesting to young boys that you are willing to show them for a night or two. I would like to develop a list of potential contacts to help counselors when looking for something different for their cadets to work on. Note: both men and women are welcome! :). ATTENTION: ALL MEN! Men’s Life will commence again on Saturday, September 22nd @ 8:30 am. Our first meeting will be of an organizational nature, as we need to discuss what our focus of study for this term will be. Please come prepared with any ideas and/or study materials which we could use to “gain wisdom and understanding” of God’s Word and His will for our lives. We need YOU to come and learn with us.
Mountainview Book Club: The Book Club meets this evening, Sept. 16, for a discussion on our first book of the new season, Precious Cargo by Craig Davidson. Mountainview Photo Club: Do you have an interest in photography? Come join us as we set out to Grow & Go this year with workshops on different aspects of photography and outings where we experiment with what we have learned. We enjoy growing as a group, both in our knowledge of photography and as Christians. Devotions will be based on the Fruit of the Spirit and learning how we can Grow & Go with the Holy Spirit. You will need a camera that has adjustable settings for the meetings. Our first meeting will be on Monday, September 24th, at 7:30 pm in the Fireside Room. We meet once a month until Spring. APPLE-PIE-MAKING VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Please join NACE for our annual Apple Pie Making on Friday, September 28 at JOHN KNOX CHRISTIAN SCHOOL in Stoney Creek, starting at 8:30 am. It's a day of fun, fellowship, making pies, and peeling apples while raising funds for NACE. Even if you have only 1 hour to spare! Bring your favourite paring knife, a bowl and a friend. MENTORS NEEDED! The Crossroads Prison Ministry's mentors have been privileged to minister to some 4000 students in over 100 prisons in Canada, by marking their bible lessons and writing them an encouraging letter. Over half a dozen members of our congregation are participating in this exciting ministry. But more mentors are needed to bless the many prisoners who need Jesus to set them "free" while in prison. I Am Not My Own - Jeremy Benjamin Zeyl and his family (wife and two children, ages 9 and 5) are returning to Ontario after crossing Canada for the last 5 months on the I Am Not My Own worship & mission tour with CRCNA and World Renew. The tour will continue until May 2019, culminating at the CRC Canadian National Gathering in Edmonton. The Zeyl clan is in need of a home to stay in (November 15, 2018 - April 15, 2019) somewhere in southern Ontario, to continue the fundraising tour from a single, central location. Last Chance to Register for Grimsby Life Centre Seniors Stride Group – Gerry McCall, our seniors’ counsellor at St. John’s Presbyterian, will lead seven consecutive Tuesday discussion groups from 10:30 am – 12:00 noon. The intro. meeting is on Tuesday, September 25th. Senior’s Stride will be deal with topics related to aging: Family relations, ageism, wellbeing, dignity, independence and participation. Word & Deed Music Concert Fundraiser - We warmly welcome you to an evening of music performed by Corneil Byl on the organ and piano at Hamilton Free Reformed Church on Saturday, September 29 at 7:30 pm. Corneil will be playing a repertoire of classical and various other well-known selections as well as accompanying the audience in singing a number of hymns and psalms. A freewill offering will be taken to support a Word & Deed after-school program in India.

2. Life Chain - On Sunday, September 30 from 1 – 2 pm we plan to gather at the intersection of Main and Christie St. in Grimsby to pray for an end to abortion. We will be joining our silent prayers with thousands of people in 1600 locations across Canada and the US who will be forming Life Chains on the same day! We will peacefully stand, holding provided signs, in honor of the 60 million lives who have been lost to abortion. This is a local witness intended to generate thought and discussion within our community and to demonstrate that abortion is not a closed or settled issue in this country.
