MOUNTAINVIEW NEWS
Join us at 10 am Sunday morning via live-stream or in-person, or at any time throughout the week. Pastor Erick will present the next part of the series “Caring Encounters - Roman Road” with a message entitled “A New Reformation” looking at the book of Romans chapter 14.
The "re" of reformation means "again". As followers of Jesus we need to again renew our commitment to such basics as following Jesus as presented in the Bible. In the present series we continue to look at how we can continue to grow in our love for each other. In doing so we will be re-formed more and more in the likeness of Jesus. Romans 14 gives us guidance on how to practice that love in disputed matters.

UPCOMING OFFERING: November 6th A.M. – World Renew: World Hunger: Conflict, drought, and the effects of COVID-19 have intensified the global hunger crisis. Over 1.6 billion people around the world are hungry. God promises in Scripture to fill the hungry with good things and invites us to join in that holy work. In 2 weeks, we will be observing World Hunger Sunday and taking a collection on behalf of World Renew’s work with our hungry brothers and sisters worldwide. Pick up your World Hunger Campaign devotionals today and spend some time thinking about what it means to hunger for good in our lives, our communities, and around the world. If you have children in your household, make sure to go online and download some special activities just for them at worldrenew.ca/ WorldHungerChurches.
Your generous support has helped to send gifts for many years. We have ready over 300 toques and scarves which will be sent directly to the Seafarers Center where items such as toiletries, snacks, and other gifts will be added. Please give as you have in other years.
We are thankful that workers in can again meet with the sailors and share Jesus’ love with them. Scripture is added to each parcel in the seafarer’s own language
How can you give? By November 6th via:
· Bridge App
· E-transfer treasurer@mountainviewcrc.org (Seafarer Parcels)
· By cheque (to Mountainview CRC with ‘Seafarer Parcels’ in the memo line).
Have you signed up to host a Dinner for Good? Not sure what we are talking about? It’s not too late to pick up a World Hunger devotional to learn more. November 6 is World Hunger Sunday! - More than one billion people lack access to enough food, and in the current global food crisis, families are struggling more than ever. IF and HOW -
IF you are considering a year-end gift to Cairn Christian School or Smithville Christian High School, here’s an idea you should consider. HOW you give your gift can add to your gift’s impact, while also making a big difference on your income tax bill.
IF you have publicly-traded securities that have gained in value over the time you have owned them, using these to give to our schools can be a great idea! HOW does this work? If you bought shares for $1,000 and they are now valued at $5,000 – they are subject to Capital Gains tax if you convert them to cash first.
IF you transfer them directly to a charity, you will give a gift that cost you $1,000, but you will get a donation receipt for a $5,000 gift (for many, reducing their taxes by approx. $2,000)! And because the school doesn’t pay capital gains taxes when they convert them to cash, it gets the full $5,000 in funds to support its important work! HOW can you do this? Is it complicated? No! We can make it straightforward: contact Kevin Huinink at Cairn Christian School (khuinink@cairnchristianschool.ca), Ted Harris at Smithville Christian High School (tharris@smithvillechristian.ca), or Kevin teBrake at our Foundation (ktebrake@christianschoolfoundation.ca) to learn more.
We recommend initiating this type of gift soon to gain from the tax advantage in 2022.
Gratitude from Safe Church: Dear Mountainview CRC, Thank you so much for your financial support for Safe Church Ministry. Because of you, we have been able to increase awareness about abuse through our webinar series, books studies, and abuse prevention resources. Your support further provides support for regional Safe Church coordinators and safe church teams across the denomination. Finally, we have been able to provide counsel and resources to churches in order to help them respond to situations of abuse in ways that promote healing and justice. Your donations make all this possible. May God richly bless the ministry of your church in the year to come!

At-home Faith Formation Tip - “Regardless of what a family looks like, its adult members can have a big impact on the development of children’s faith. And they do that primarily by modeling faith in everyday moments. What do those moments look like? They are amazingly ordinary. Holding hands, praying at the table, going to bed . . . talking about a bad day at school—those moments all have the potential to form faith”—from Dear Parent: A Guide for Family Faith Formation, by Laura Keeley and Robert J. Keeley, available at FaithAliveResources.org. (Faith Formation Tip; bit.ly/CRCFaithFormation)
