MOUNTAINVIEW NEWS
We look forward to marking Good Friday and Easter together. Through the faith practice of celebrating we delight in circumstances, relationships, and occasions that help us remember and anticipate God's abundant goodness, creativity, faithfulness, beauty, and love. Faith Formation Ministries
On April 15th @ 7 pm we will have a Tenebrae service. Tenebrae” (service of shadows) is a prolonged meditation on Christ’s suffering. As we journey with Jesus from the Last Supper to the cross, the power of silence and darkness suggest the drama of this momentous event. As candles are extinguished, and lights are dimmed, and the darkness increases, we ponder the depth of Christ’s suffering and death. We remember the cataclysmic nature of his sacrifice with silence and the sound of the strepitus (to symbolize Jesus' death)
Join us at 10 am Sunday morning via live-stream or in-person, or at any time throughout the week. We conclude the series “Creating Space for God” with a message “Celebration & Anticipation” will be looking at the book of Genesis chapter 1 and Matthew chapter 28 verses 1-10
How we choose to see the bigger story also affects how we see God present and at work. Easter is naturally a time of celebration and the Discipline of Celebration helps us remember what God has done and live in anticipation for an ending we already know.
Spritual Disciplines Resource from Faith Formation Ministries available at the church for small groups! - Faith Practices is an entry-level introduction to some of the practical “spiritual disciplines” that Christians throughout the centuries have used to draw closer to God. This booklet is a great starting place for individuals or small groups who would like to become more aware of and sensitive to God’s voice in their everyday lives. Included are resources (such as lectio divina passages, journaling prompts, and creative action ideas) for exploring twelve faith practices. Visit crcna.org/FaithPracticesProject to learn more!
Did you practice any of the spiritual disciplines this Lent?
How did you experience “creating space for God”?
We would love to hear your stories and celebrate God and new life on Easter Sunday. Contact Pastor Erick or Pastor Peter with your intent to share in worship, or let one of them share your story for you.
Mountainview Book Club: Five Little Indians, a novel by Michelle Good, "chronicles the bonds of friendship between a group of residential school survivors as they help each other to reinvent their lives, and, ultimately, find a way forward". The book club will be discussing this book, the recent winner of Canada Reads, at our next book club meeting on Monday, April 25, at 2:00, at the church. Are you interested in joining that meeting? Do you need a copy of the book? Please call or email Liz Meijer at lizmeijer55@gmail.com.
This week’s highlight: “When We Were Alone” by David A Robertson & Julie Flett
A young girl notices things about her grandmother that make her curious. Why does her grandmother have long, braided hair and beautifully coloured clothing? Why does she speak Cree and spend so much time with her family? As she asks questions, her grandmother shares her experiences in a residential school, when all of these things were taken away.

Shalom’s Extend the Blessing Campaign: This is the LORD’S doing; it is marvelous in our eyes Psalm 118:23 (ESV). In September 1979, these words from Psalm 118 were declared out loud, when Shalom Grimsby opened. We eagerly look forward to the day, when we can declare these words once again with the opening of Shalom Hamilton, Lord willing to take place in 2024. In order to make this happen, we need your support to reach our $22 million goal. Will you prayerfully consider partnering with Shalom in this expansion into Hamilton? Envelopes, that include materials on the project and how you can partner with Shalom to Extend the Blessing, have been placed on the Newsletter table in the church foyer. Questions? please reach out to Theresa de Roos (fundraising@shalommanor.ca) 905.945.9631, ext 1126 or Anthony Holl (anthonyh@shalommanor.ca) ext 1127.
NewGround Sunday is almost here! “God creates each of us by Christ Jesus to join Him in the work He does, the good work He has gotten ready for us to do - work we had better be doing.” (Eph. 2:7-10, MSG) Over the years, NewGround has helped over 100 churches in Canada love their community! Yet there are still churches that don’t have the resources or expertise they need. Will you help? Your generous donations to NewGround will help even more churches discover God’s dreams for their local community and how they can join Him. Learn more about this program by visiting Diaconal Ministries Canada’s website: diaconalministries.com/newground.
