June 15th, 2025 - Learning From Two Church Fathers
Discussion Questions:
Instead of discussion questions this week, I have something different. It strikes me that Job's friends spend much of this story trying to impress on him their alleged wisdom. One of them claims to have the wisdom of the forefathers, one claims to the wisdom of lived experience, and one even claims to have wisdom directly from God.
In chapter 28, Job interrupts the argument to speculate on the nature of wisdom. His reflection on wisdom comes from a place of pain and suffering, and I think we can see the working of God's spirit here, growing the fruit of spiritual transformation out of the compost of Job's suffering.
In your groups, read Job 28 and explore it together. Share your thoughts with one another and pray together over whatever comes out of this discussion.
