Scripture Passages: Hebrews 4:1-11 (and 12,13); Psalm 95
Questions
1. Start by sharing what a very restful day looks like for you.
2. Do you connect vacation or holiday weekends with Sabbath?
3. Why do you think the Heidelberg Catechism uses the words “festive day of rest” when talking about Sabbath? What day is the sabbath?
4. How would you connect taking a sabbath day and entering sabbath rest?
5. Why does God rest on the seventh day? Was he tired? What does his rest look like?
6. How do you personally enter rest? Are there specific steps you take?
7. What is the hardest part of resting for you…. what is most difficult to stop?
8. Are your vacations a physical rest? A spiritual rest? How about emotional?
9. When have you experienced the Word cutting you to the heart and doing surgery on you?
10. Do you have a personal daily (or regular) sabbath practice? Describe what it looks like. Share a time you met God there.
11. Do you have a group that keeps you resting in God, or helps you process your restlessness?
12. Spend time resting in prayer together. Perhaps intentionally leave some times of silence.
