The Passion Story
- Journey to the Cross
Lent Series - February 22 - April 5th
Lent is the 40-day season of preparation for Easter. Worship in this season is marked by a more intentional somber tone, introspection, prayer, penitence, silence, and simplicity. This year we follow again the “Lenten Guided Prayer.” We will pray through and reflect on (via lectio divina) the Scripture passages that cover the narrative of Jesus’ journey to the cross (mostly from Matthew 26 and 27). These passages will guide our worship as well. For more details on events during lent check out Ruth Ann’s Worship blog.
March 15th - 4th Sunday of Lent
Join us Sunday morning at 10 am in person or online. Pastor Erick Schuringa continues our Lent Series “The Passion Story - Journey to the Cross” with a look at Matthew 26:36-46 - “Painful Prayer”
This week we look at Jesus struggling with what he was facing. The powerful emotional struggle shows us how we are to face up to things when we are called to surrender. Prayer is a big part of this journey.
March 29th - 6th Sunday of Lent
Join us Sunday morning at 10 am in person or online. Pastor Erick Schuringa continues our Lent Series “The Passion Story - Journey to the Cross” with a look at Matthew 21:1-17, the story of Jesus’ Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem.
April 3rd - Good Friday
Join us Friday evening at 7 pm in person or online. We conclude our Lent Series “The Passion Story - Journey to the Cross” with a Tenebrae Service of Shadows.
“Tenebrae” is a prolonged meditation on Christ’s suffering. The power of silence and darkness suggests the drama of this momentous event. As candles are extinguished, lights are dimmed, and music is reduced, we ponder the depth of Christ’s suffering and death. We remember the cataclysmic nature of his sacrifice with silence and the sound of the strepitus.
April 5th - Easter Sunday
Join us Easter Sunday morning at 10 am in person or online. Pastoral Care Jolene Veenstra will lead us in a Resurrection Sunday Celebration Service..
