Offering Prayers

“Many of you are aware that I have had ongoing health concerns. I am booked for surgery on November 18th. The doctor has required that I have 6 weeks of recovery. I am feeling positive and praying for a smooth surgery and recovery. Thank you all for your love, and your prayers during this time. God be with each of you, our church and may the Holy Spirit and Jesus bless you immensely.”

Henk Heersink has returned home but he continues to live with significant pain. Please pray for relief for him and that both Henk and his supporting family members will be given what they need to manage day to day. We pray for strength, patience and healing.

With cooler weather beginning we think of our neighbours who are unhoused, lacking supports, or not meeting some other basic need. We give thanks for our summer food program and for the collaboration with Start Me Up Niagara, through which we can make little steps to begin to address so many needs. We are currently collecting blankets and other covers to help people keep warm in the cold (they can be left in the Council Room on the benches). We pray for all of the many individuals and organizations who support those who need in our community: the Fort, GBF, Community Living, Emergency services, Emergency or Walk-In health clinics and hospitals, Grimsby Life Centre, Southridge Shelter, Gillians place, Out of the Cold, the YMCA and so many more. This thanksgiving we have a further opportunity to respond, with thanks for our provision and in response to such great need, by bringing in food and supplies for GBF. May our hands be open wide and our hearts be moved to give.

September 30th is the sixth annual National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada. This date is a public remembering and lamenting of the legacy of residential schools in Canada but also just the colonial legacy of our entire history with Indigenous Peoples. As Christians who believe in a God who reconciles us to Himself and to one another, the act of reconciliation is something we are called into. The work has only just begun. May God guide us, uphold us, and sustain us in this work.

Giving Thanks

We celebrate the development and supportive work that Sovann is guiding and leading with World Renew in Cambodia. May God continue to bless their efforts.

Rene Louter’s surgery went very well. The Draaistra family gives thanks to God for his care. We continue to pray for healing, strength, and a return to full health.

Cool evenings and cooling days, crunching leaves and seeds, buzzing bees, crickets chirping, and colourful landscapes are just a few items of wonder as fall advances. This beautiful, bounteous world belongs to our Creator and is also ours to delight in! May we always continue to be thankful for, curious about, and in a responsible relationship with God’s creation. We give thanks for the seasons, and the faithfulness, creativity, order and divine character God demonstrates in the seasons.
