Offering Prayers
Lois Hanson was feeling unwell and went to hospital yesterday. She has been deemed to be palliative, and her family has travelled to be by her side. She is unable to have visitors at this time. The people who know and love Lois are all shocked, but Lois was ready and her time on this earth is near its end. We pray for peace, comfort, grace, strength and God’s embrace for Lois and her family as she makes her journey home.
Recently, Jane was diagnosed with stomach cancer. Her treatment plan, which begins next week, will include a combination of chemotherapy and surgery. While we are somewhat anxious of the road ahead, we are confident in the knowledge that God will be with us every step along the way and hopeful for a cure and complete recovery. We welcome your prayers and words of encouragement.
Rob & Jane Van Wely
Graham Austin will undergo surgery on Monday November 2nd. We pray for peace for both Graham & Lorraine throughout the whole process (before and after his operation), a good outcome, no complications, and a full recovery. They know God walks with them.
Please join us in holding up in prayer those who manage daily burdens of one kind or another (chronic or acute illness, grief, mental health, loneliness, loss of abilities). We think specifically this week of: Betsy Witteveen, Henk Heersink, Shirley Bergshoeff, Gert & Hinke Draaistra, Evelyn Vander Meer, Anna (Louise) Boele, and Reinhard Mech. May God give them each what they stand in need of. May God give wisdom and strength to those who walk alongside them. We also pray for those who are dealing with issues of which we are not aware.
Giving Thanks
We give thanks for Peter Juhlke’s ongoing work with Youth Unlimited YFC Lincoln which has continued this fall. A Junior Youth Program was just launched in October for students in Grades 5-8. They are running their Wayfinder Discipleship Program with an added worship time. Some of the youth take part in preparing the meal each week; another opportunity to serve and grow together. The Annual Banquet takes place next Saturday, Nov 7 @ 6pm. Visit this link to register. Please take a read of the September Newsletter for more details LINKED HERE.
Rina Vantellingen is returning home to Deer Park! The timing is not certain but it is in the works and should be any day (likely today/Friday). This comes on the heels of just having been hospitalized and is wonderful news for both Rina (who has been desiring this for a long time) and her family. We celebrate together with them!
We give thanks for the St Catharines Food Program, for all the people to facilitate it with food prep, cleaning, planning, organizing, donating, delivery, serving, praying, and connecting. We give thanks to the Deacons and all of you who financially support it along with the government for the funds they have provided via grants. We give thanks to God for the opportunity he has given us to walk alongside our neighbours. And we give thanks for all of the people who utilize the Food Program. Many of their pictures have been posted on our Events Board outside the Church Office. We celebrate each of these beautiful individuals, all image-bearers of God, and give thanks for them. As we enter a colder season, we pray for their safety and for adequate access to supports, connection, food and shelter. Please come to “meet” some of these individuals and remember to pray for them, the Food Program, and for justice that moves beyond mercy, that we may continue to work to address the root causes behind so many needs in our community.
We give thanks for GBF, all the community support and programing they provide, the partnerships we have with them throughout the year, and the opportunity to serve alongside them in the Trick or Canning Food Drive this weekend. The food gathered is key in replenishing their stock as Foodbank use continues to rise. Thanks be to God for the resources we are able to give in time, money and service and for the relationships and community connections we are building.
