Offering Prayers
By the grace of God, Lois Hanson is doing much better! Her underlying condition remains unchanged, but she is recovering so well in hospital that they are starting to talk about next steps. We don't know what God has in store. For now, we are still planning visits and cherishing every day we have with her while hoping for many more! Please continue to lift Lois and her family up in prayer.
Shirley Bergshoeff’s condition has stabilized for the most part. She has her ups and downs but is no longer considered palliative. Overall she is peaceful, and for that we are thankful. May Shirley and her family continue to feel God’s peace and presence.
Hinke Draaistra went into West Lincoln yesterday with difficulty breathing and ongoing back pain. She has received a blood transfusion, which has given some relief, her pain is being managed, and her other concerns are being investigated. We pray for guidance and wisdom for her health care team and peace, patience and strength for Hinke & Gert and their family. May they know God walks with them.
Henk Heersink has returned home but he and his family continue to manage a number of challenges. We pray for wisdom, answers, guidance, patience and strength as they adapt to new normals and determine what is helpful for Henk.
The Ontario government has paused OSAP funds for all 242 private career colleges in Ontario amidst an investigation of eight schools suspected of misusing OSAP funds. As a a result, students of Redeemer University (and also Tyndale University, Mac Divinity) are experiencing challenges paying for not only tuition, but also rent, groceries and other basic needs. The institutions themselves are also scrambling to arrange supports and manage with delayed tuition revenue. Please pray for the students and schools experiencing hardship. Pray for and campaign to the government officials to expediently resolve this situation.
Please join us in holding up in prayer those who manage daily burdens of one kind or another (chronic or acute illness, grief, mental health, loneliness, loss of abilities). We think specifically this week of: Graham & Lorraine Austin, Joyce Wheaton, Connie Van Rooyen, Anna Spoelstra, Nell Wielhouwer, and Gerry & Marguerite Termorshuizen. May God give them each what they stand in need of. May God give wisdom and strength to those who walk alongside them. We also pray for those who are dealing with issues of which we are not aware.
Giving Thanks
The Doppenberg family running DIG (Dream, Invest, Grow) in Guatemala are new missionaries of Mountainivew but not to our church family and not to their work of more than a decade. Please visit their website to explore some of the beautiful opportunities they have to share God’s love and care with the people of Guatemala: dreaminvestgrow.org. Mountainview is privileged to partner with them in the work God has given and gifted them to do. This spring, a Smithville Chrisitan High School team, including Mountainview members, will be working with dig over March break. We pray a blessing on DIG as they host many other groups between now and then and we pray for a blessing on the preparation and fundraising (Euchre & Cornhole DIG Fundraiser November 21st in the evening) of this team as they prepare to learn and serve.
Rick Heywood is turning 80 on November 10th. Rick & Bev are heading to Florida shortly after his birthday, and so they are celebrating this significant milestone with family and friends early. We pray a blessing on Rick and give thanks for his life and gifts. May he continue to walk with God’s care and guidance in the years ahead.
Almost 43, 000 lbs of food!! It’s not a competition, but it is something to celebrate; the goodness of God through the generousity (in time, food and service) of our community. We give thanks for GBF, all the community support and programing they provide, the partnerships we have with them throughout the year, and the opportunity to serve alongside them in the Trick or Canning Food Drive. The food gathered is key in replenishing their stock as Foodbank use continues to rise. Thanks be to God for the resources we are able to give, for the relationships and community connections we are building, and for his Spirit present and guiding through it all.
May we remember and name the sacrifices made during war to secure our freedoms. Help us to honor their memory by living justly with these freedoms, working to be peacemakers in our communities, righting historic wrongs and participating with God in the reconciliation of all things under Jesus our Lord. Let us not forget.
